Abstract
The purpose of this study is to suggest the methods to identify the factors affecting medical use in the Seoul metropolitan region by hospitalized cancer inpatients residing in Gwangju and improve the residents' regional equity in medical use. The study used a national hospital discharge in-depth injury survey from 2013 to 2017 and analyzed the data using the chi-square test and logistic regression analysis. The results are as follows. First, as the patients were younger, the medical use rate in the Seoul metropolitan region was high. Second, with city and country levels in Jeollanam-do administrative districts, Jindo was the highest, followed by Sinan, Gurye, and Wando order. Third, when the cancer is a reproductive-related malignant neoplasm, the medical use rate in the Seoul metro region is high. Fourth, as the severity of the patients is high or the patients have surgical history, the medical use rate of the Seoul metropolitan region increases. Consequently, the research results are expected to be used as baseline data for the local cancer policies for analyzing the characteristics of medical use, analyzing the causes of regional polarization towards the capital area, and making an environment without regional polarization regarding the quality of cancer treatment.
